Los Angeles is home.

It holds our hearts, even with its flaws. We believe in its boundless potential, powered by its people. That faith in community has never been more vital, as our city faces relentless attacks. For weeks, ICE has torn away friends and neighbors from our midst. Families and neighborhoods still struggle to recover after wildfires ravaged entire communities. Meanwhile, economic strain, rising threats to diverse and queer communities, and assaults on democracy compound the pressure across our region. Each of these challenges undermines our ability to live full and productive lives, eroding the promise of the American ideal. Together, they demand an urgent and collective response.

Resilience Is In Our DNA

Today, we are reminded of our resilience as Angelenos. From our inception, this city has beat the odds. With grit and creativity, we have built back stronger after every struggle. The Angeleno Project emerged in that spirit, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic which laid bare inequities across our communities. Since then our work has continued, fueled by our commitment to build a better Los Angeles for all. We’ve remained consistent in our mission to bring our city together in times of crisis – and today is no different.

Storytelling Is Our Greatest Tool

Our greatest tool to address needs in our community has consistently been storytelling – lifting up the voices of those closest to challenges and injustice, and using their lived experiences to shape policy and build solutions. For example, with our “Home Is” campaign, we humanized our homelessness and housing crisis to build support for efforts like Measure A, a new permanent source of funding to provide more housing and services.  We also launched Bold Black LA to affirm the role and place of Black Angelenos in our City and continue to advance an agenda to address racism and anti-Blackness in the region. At a time when many are pushing false narratives about who we are and what we stand for, it’s more important than ever to tell our story proudly, loudly, and boldly.

What’s Next

Building on the powerful storytelling that helped pass Measure A, launch the Bold Black LA initiative, and elevate the voices of Angelenos who have experienced homelessness, we are evolving our strategy to center storytelling as a force for change.

To meet the urgency of this moment, we are pausing The Angeleno Project’s current programming to focus entirely on a bold, community-rooted storytelling initiative — one that meets this critical time with the urgency it deserves.

This next chapter is designed to complement the vital efforts of our frontline community partners with a sustained, people-centered approach that humanizes the complex issues we face. Through collaboration with our communities, we aim to inspire hope, mobilize action, and advance systemic reform, while reflecting the strength, diversity, and pride of Los Angeles. Most importantly, we remain unwavering in our commitment to speak truth to power, even in an environment that seeks to silence and dismiss voices like ours.

In a time marked by division, disinformation, and distrust, our work is grounded in honesty, unity, and the faith that we can build a Los Angeles that works for all.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has stood with us in this mission. In the weeks ahead, we’ll share more about this new chapter — and how you can join us in amplifying the voices of our community. This work has always been about people. Together, we will help our city heal, rebuild, and emerge stronger. Stay connected with us at [link] to help us write this next chapter.
